Our trip offers the Sacred Journey to the Mount Kailash Kora for foreigners as well as Non-resident Indians (NRIs) in a small group. Maximum group size is 20 participants or less. At the moment, journey to the Mount Kailash Kora is not opened for Indian passport holders. However, visiting Tibet including the Everest Base Camp and Lhasa is available for Indian passport holders.

Sacred Journey to the Mount Kailash Kora Highlights Include

  • Kailash Manasarovar Yatra (Pilgrimage to the Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar) is the divine spiritual journey. As per the Hindu, Buddhist and Jain believes, taking a bathe in the holy water of the Lake Manasarovar and circumambulation (parikarma) around the Mt. Kailash can lead to the reincarnation and purification of souls.

  • Mt. Kailash is the mortal manifestation of Mt. Meru, a spiritual center of the universe and as per Hindu mythology, the Swarga (heaven) is situated here and paying the visit means cleaning of their sins.

  • No Human Could Ever Climb to the Peak and nobody could obtain the permission to climb it: Rough weather, altitude sickness, diverging in the wrong direction, and misleading trails are some hindrances that had stopped human to summit the peak. According to Hindu scriptures, meddling with the divinity of the sacred Mount is a forbidden act as this can disturb the Godhead, Lord Shiva Kailash, who resides in the mountain with his consort and Nandi.

Day 1: Drive to Kyirong (2700m): 145KM, 6-7 Hrs

Day 2: Rest, acclimatization and exploration in Kyirong

Day 3: Drive to Saga (4450m): 232KM, 5-6 Hrs

Day 4: Drive to Manasarovar (4600m): 507KM, 8-9 Hrs

Day 5: Visit Manasarovar and surroundings. Drive to Darchen (4570m): 40KM, 1 Hr

Sacred Journey to the Mount Kailash Kora Price Includes

  • The process of obtaining Travel Permit to enter Tibet and its cost

  • The process of obtaining Chinese group visa in Kathmandu (the cost of visa is not included in the price)

  • Shared jeep transportation to the border (from Kathmandu to Nepal -Tibet border of Rasuwagadhi)

  • Personal transport mini-van or, for a large group, a minibus in Tibet

  • English-speaking Tibetan guide in Tibet 

  • Road fees and all permits of the PRC, according to the route

Sacred Journey to the Mount Kailash Kora Price Excludes

  • International flights, Visa fee for Nepal and China, required insurances, meals (about $15-$20 per day)

  • Horses, ponies, yaks or porters to carry your personal belongings during the Kora

  • Any extra costs associated with natural disasters and political changes (helicopter, extra days spent on the route);

  • Tips, personal and incidental expenses

NOTE: on adventure trek on this type, weather, local politics, transport or a multitude of other  factors beyond our control can result in a change of itinerary, it is however, very unlikely that the itinerary would be substantially altered; if alterations are necessary your guide will decide what is the best alternative consulting with you, taking into consideration the best interests of the whole group. Kailash Kora – ritual circumambulation in Tibetan, parikrama in Sanskrit. Those who have committed the kora shed the karmic burden of the past. And the Drolma-La pass symbolizes death and birth into a new life. It is believed that the one who even performed parikrama is saved for centuries, and the worst that can be expected is an incarnation in the human world.

Manasarovar (“Victorious Lake”) and Rakshas (“Lake of the Demon”), two sacred twin lakes Rakshas Tso (Langatso) and Manasarovar. In a pair, Lake Manasarovar and Rakshas Tal symbolize light and darkness, Lake Manasarovar has a rounded shape, and Rakshastal has the shape of a crescent. They are connected by a natural channel 10 km long, through which, in high-water periods, water flows into Lake Rakshas Tso. For most of the year, the huge dome of Mount Kailash is reflected in the lake. Manasarovar is surrounded by eight Buddhist monasteries.

Drive to Kyirong (2700m): 145KM, 6-7 Hrs

Our journey into the Himalaya begins with a scenic drive to Kerung (Nepal –Tibet border). Early drive (as early as 04:00AM) due to the time difference between Nepal and Tibet. Kyirong border follows the Beijing Time which is 02:15hr ahead of Nepal time which means the border closes two hours fifteen minutes before Nepal time.

At the top of the Kathmandu valley the views extend west as far as the Annapurnas and Manaslu. As you drop down into the Trisuli valley you’ll pass through terraced hillsides to Trisuli Bazaar, where an exciting, narrow road traverses several ridges to reach the small town of Dhunche (1970M), a good view point for Langtang as well as Jugal Himalayan panorama. We drive through the beautiful Nepalese countryside. Please be patience that there are multiple check-points before entering to Tibet and after crossing Nepal-Tibet border too!

After completion of the necessary border formalities at Nepalese immigration, we walk for 10-15 minutes to reach to the Chinese immigration. Drive another hour and half to reach to the Kyirong town. It also called Gyirong, Kerong or Kerang. Overnight stay at Guest House.

Rest, acclimatization and exploration around Kyirong Town

In order for better acclimatization at the altitude of 2700m above sea level, we have additional night in the Kyirong town. It is also necessary and important to get well acclimatized before heading towards higher areas into Tibetan vast plateau. We simply sit, relax and enjoy views of Ganesh and Langtang Himal that borders with Nepal and Tibet. Kyirong is also a famous religious and historical place, home of 11th century great saint and Guru Milarepa known for his tantric wisdom as well a poet and folk singer, his song are still remembered by local herdsman and villagers. Overnight in Guesthouse.

Drive to Saga (4450m): 232KM, 5-6 Hrs

After breakfast, we will have a long but beautiful drive on the desert terrain to Saga through a mountain pass of 5280m. To the west, we will have a stunning view of the snowy peaks of Gaurishankar, Shishapangma and Langtang Himal. Driving past nomad camps and sheep and yak herds. Continue drive through Khunmen Tso, Sinling, Karru Ongchen and Peiku tso Lake (4400m). We will be crossing river Brahmaputra ( “Yarlung Tsangpo” in Tibetan ). Monitor your condition and take the necessary measures to prevent altitude sickness. Overnight at Guest House.

Drive to Manasarovar (4600m): 507KM, 8-9 Hrs

Watching the mountains in distance and driving through road, we pass through the small town of Zhongba before reaching  to Paryang. The first view of the Holy Kailash. Visit to Chiu Gompa (Monastery), Guru Rinpoche’s place of practice. The monastery is one the northwest shore of the lake and offers a magnificent view of the turquoise lake Manasarovar, Lake Rakshastal (Rickshas Tal or La’angcuo) peaks of Kailash and Gurla Mandata (7694m). Overnight in a guest house near Lake Manasarovar (very basic accommodation in a clay house).

Manasarovar and surroundings, Drive to Darchen(4570m): 40KM, 1 Hr

Lake Manasarovar is considered a symbol of compassion, peace and blessing. You will make a ritual detour, Kora around the lake by jeep (detour 90 km). Take a holy bathe, meditate or simply spend some peaceful hours at the shores of the sacred Lake Manasarovar. From here, we drive to Darchen, from where the bypass of Kailash begins. Overnight at the guesthouse.

Drive to Sherchung, 13KM. Trek to Dira Puk (4900m): 13KM, 6-7 Hrs

The first day of the ritual kora of Kailash. After an early breakfast, you will drive 13 km. before the beginning of the Kora in Serchung. Today you have to walk 13 km. to Dirapuk (4,909 m.), 6-7 hours. First, your path will pass through the Lhachu valley, then along a narrow canyon. Along the way, you will discover the Western Face of Kailash, the door to Shambhala and the mystical Chantamani stone. Upon reaching the ancient monastery of Dira Puk, you will see the Northern Face of Kailash. Exit to the Northern Face of Kailash. Overnight at the hotel in Dira Puk.

Trek to Zutrulphuk (4760m) via Drolma La Pass (5620m): 20KM, 10-12 Hrs

Second day of Kailash kora. Trek to Zutrulpuk (4.760 m.) through the Tara Pass (Drolma-La, 5.613 m.). The most difficult and responsible day of the journey. Having crossed the Green Tara pass, you enter a new life. 20 km., 10-12 hours of travel. Overnight in a clay house in Zutulpuk.

Zutrulphuk -End of Kailash Kora - Drive to Saga via Darchen and Manasarovar: 547KM, 10-11 Hrs

Retrace our way back via Darchen and Manasarovar. Overnight at the guesthouse in Saga.

Drive to Kyirong (2700m): 232KM, 5-6 Hrs

Our last day in Tibet. Overnight in Guesthouse.

Drive to Kathmandu (1300m): 145KM, 6-7 Hrs

Wake up another perfect morning for the last view of Langtang Himalayan ranges. After breakfast, drive an hour to the Rasuwagadhi, Tibet -Nepal border. After the necessary border formalities crossing the border, meeting with the Nepalese representative crossing the border. Transfer back to Kathmandu along the road already familiar to you. Trip ends!
