Ghorepani –Poonhill –Hot Spring Trek is a short but colorful journey into the Annapurna region with 360-degree Dhaulagiri –Annapurna –Manaslu Himalayan range from Poonhill –Nepal’s second best viewpoint. The trail winds through patchwork valleys, dense mossy forests and past icy waterfalls where you can stop to cool your face. Around every corner is a tantalizing glimpse of the high mountains, whole horizons of which will be revealed to you as you reach the high points of your trek. The climax of this trekking is to climb Poonhill at dawn to enjoy one of the most spectacular mountain views. As the sun touches the snow-capped summits the Himalayan giants, Dhaulagiri (8,167m) and Annapurna (8,091m) along with a maze of other peaks, slowly begin to appear, like magic, before our eyes. Enjoy trekking in the spectacular mountain scenery through charming villages inhabited by the Gurungs, dense rhododendron forests full of birds and deep sub-tropical valleys, all set below the Annapurna with the picturesque fluted peak of Machhapuchhare (Fish Tail Peak) dominating the skyline. A bathe at the natural hot spring in Jhinu Danda is a highlight of the trip!

ARRIVE TO KATHMANDU

Our representative will receive you from the Kathmandu airport and transfer by private vehicle to the hotel. Leisure day to adjust with altitude, weather and time difference as well as to take rest from jetlags. And, getting used to with the cultural shock of medieval Kathmandu, with its bustling bazaars interspersed with shrines and temples and interesting architecture. In the evening, you can eat at your hotel or venture out to one of the many restaurants in Thamel. Overnight at hotel.

TREK PREPARATION DAY

Optional, walking tour of Kathmandu’s cultural heritage sites listed by UNESCO for three hours including Kathmandu Durbar Square, Monkey Temple & local markets towards South of Thamel. Later part of the rest of the day is for obtaining trekking permit (TIMS), conservation permit and final packing for the trekking.

DRIVE TO NAYAPUL, 8-9 HRS, TREK TO HILE (1495M) 2-3 HRS

After breakfast at hotel, we leave the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu behind by driving on our own car. Our journey into the Himalaya begins with a scenic drive to Kande through Nagdhunga, Malekhu, Mugling and Pokhara. At the top of the Kathmandu valley the views extend west as far as the Annapurnas and Manaslu. As you drop down into the Trisuli valley, you will pass through terraced hillsides, where an exciting, narrow road traverses several ridges to reach the small village of Nayapul. After submission our conservation permit and trekking registration certificate to the ACAP authorities (Ghandruk trail splits here), we commence our trek to Birethanti hamlet beside the Modi River. We head up the main trail to Sudame where we climb gradually up the side of the valley, reaching Hile (1495m).

TREK TO GHOREPANI (2860M) 6-7 HRS

Today we spend a pleasant day’s walking, trekking through rhododendron and oak forests and across the Bhurungdi Khola stream before making a short, final climb to Nangethanti (2460m). After lunch in Nangethanti we head up to Ghorepani.

TREK TO POON HILL (3210M) & CHUILE (2330M) 6-7 HRS

After an early start at around 05:00 hrs, we will ascend to Poon Hill (3210m), one hour steep climb leads us to a brilliant viewpoint, providing an unobstructed sunrise over the high Himalayas. After spending half an hour on the hillside and enjoy a good cup of coffee or tea, we come back to Ghorepani, have a hot breakfast, and start walking to Tadapani. From Ghorepani the trail climbs along ridges and through pine and rhododendron forests to Deurali (2960m). We descend to reach Banthanti, our lunch spot. After lunch, the trail climb to the Tadapani and descend down to Chuile.

TREK TO JHINU DANDA HOT SPRING (1700M) 5-6 HRS

After breakfast, the trail drops steeply down to the settlement called Chuile through dense rhododendron and oak forest. It continuously drops down till the bridge through small villages and farmland before climbing up to the village called Ghurjung which probably be our lunch spot. Jhinu Hot Spring is about two hours and half away from here. After arrival, we prepare ourselves to deep down to the Hot Spring till the evening. Overnight stay at Jhinu Danda.

TREK TO NAYAPUL & DRIVE TO POKHARA 6-7 HRS

The trek to Nayapul takes about five hours passing through Sewai with beautiful villages, terraces and farmlands. A short, steep descent leads out on a ridge towards Ghandruk. Begin the trek back to Naya Pool, about two hours and half from Sewai taxi stand. The trail leads to Nayapul by bank of Modi river through villages and terraced fields to Syauli Bazaar, then onto Nayapul before being transported back to Pokhara from Nayapul and overnight stay in Pokhara. The trail passes through birch forest, and then follows the river to extensive rice terraces. Hike to Naya Pool, then drive back to Pokhara. If you will be early back, you will have walking around Lake Side town.

POKHARA

After breakfast, spend your day in the cleanest city of Nepal, Pokhara. Adventure activities such as Paragliding, flying in the ultralight aircrafts, bungee jumping, zeep-flying etc. are highlighting activities in Pokhara. Besides, joining drop-in yoga classes or just spend couple of hours near the lake can be done too. Overnight at hotel.

DRIVE TO KATHMANDU 6-7 HRS

Return to Kathmandu by private car via same road. Transfer to the hotel. Rest of the day on your own for souvenirs shopping or rest. Overnight stay at hotel.

After breakfast, we provide you the departure transfer to the Kathmandu International Airport to fly onward destination.

How many days is Poonhill Trek?

Pokhara to Poonhill trek and back to Pokhara takes 3 days if we retrace our way back. However, since our itinerary does not retrace our way back, we make a loop and little circuit in lower Annapurna foothills and cover Ghorepani, Tadapani, Chuile, Jhinu danda Hot Spring.
